Model-driven apps suit data-heavy processes with many related tables, security roles and forms. Canvas apps suit task-focused, highly designed or mobile-first experiences. Many solutions use both on the same Dataverse data.

### Do we need Dataverse?

For anything business-critical, usually yes. Dataverse gives you relational data, row-level security, auditing and a proper ALM story. SharePoint lists are fine for simple, low-risk cases.
